Three Waters Reserve occupies 70 acres of conservation land on the Sugar River in eastern Green County. The land is owned and managed by Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy. From 1926 to 2018, the property was occupied by the Decatur Lake Golf Course. The property is now protected from development in perpetuity with conservation easements and the establishment of a wetland mitigation bank.

Among the conservation goals for Three Waters Reserve include restoring historic natural landscapes and habitats of this reach of the Lower Sugar River blufflands. The sandy loam soils of the Reserve are being restored to oak savanna and prairie across a moisture gradient ranging from dry to wet. Nearshore habitats will feature a variety of open and forested wetlands and inundated aquatic habitats.

Restoration of the land will recapture valuable ecosystem functions that provide clean water, healthy soil, biologically diverse plant and animal communities, flood attenuation, and an aesthetically pleasing setting for human visitors to learn and reconnect with nature.

The former clubhouse on the property has been refurbished to serve as an event center, field station, and a farm to table catering operation featuring ingredients from local regenerative farmers. The field station is administered by our partners at the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association from its new home in the lower level of TWR.

Mowed walking trails are available for public access. The event center is available to reserve for public and private events, weddings, workshops, meetings and more. All proceeds from venue rentals
